René Lohse

René Lohse

René Lohse (born September 23 1973 in Berlin, Germany) is a German figure skater and specialized in ice dancing.

René Lohse was a team in ice dancing with Kati Winkler. They won the bronze medal at the World championships in ice dancing in 2004. This was the greatest success for the German ice dancers since 1973, the time of Angelika Buck/Erich Buck. They were also the first German ice dance pair to qualify for the Grand Prix final. 2001 they finished 5th in the Grand Prix final. In 2003 they qualified but had to withdraw due to an illness.

René Lohse is the son of Michael und Alrun Lohse. He has one brother Rico and one sister Romy. René Lohse started skating with the age of 4 in his home town Berlin. At fist he was a single skater and was coached by Romy Kermer. 1983 he changed the coach to Jürgen Bertko.

Kati Winkler und René Lohse teamed up in 1987 to reestablish ice dancing in East Germany. Ice dancing was not officially supported in East Germany for several decades. Their coach was Knut Schubert until 1996. They were the last East German champions 1990. In 1996 they moved to Oberstdorf in Bavaria and changed also their coach to Martin Skotnicky. However Winkler/Lohse skated always for the club SC Berlin (earlier SC Dynamo Berlin). After the World championships 2004 they finished their amateur career.

René Lohse's profession is Sport- and Tourist manager. His girl friend is Marjolaine Mineau from Canada.

Kati Winkler and René Lohse still participate in ice shows.
