Kentucky . Operated by Pulaski County Schools, Southwestern opened its doors in the fall of 1993 to alleviate crowding at the district's other high school, Pulaski County High School. It is fed by several schools operated by the Pulaski County district, namely Nancy Elementary, Burnside Elementary, Southern Elementary, Oak Hill Elementary, and Southern Middle School. Also, students at Science Hill School, a K-8 school operated by a separate district within Pulaski County, have the option of attending either Southwestern or Pulaski County High.Athletics

Southwestern High School engages competitively in various sports.
Basketball
During the 06-07 year, the boy's basketball team won the district title, defeating Monticello and Wayne County. In the regionals, the team defeated Somerset in the regional quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals to runner-up Boyle County for the second consecutive year. [http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kybbk6?source=khsaa&did=&tid=&id=tournament_71112&action_name=] During the 06-07 year the girl's basketball team advanced to the 12th region finals where they lost to Wayne County in overtime.During the 07-08 year the girl's basketball team won the schools first ever 48th District title in girls basketball by defeating Wayne County.
Soccer
The soccer program is perhaps the most decorated of all Warrior athletic programs. In 1998, the SWHS boy's soccer team won both District and Reginal Championships.
*2003 SeasonIn 2003, the boy's soccer team went as far as Kentucky State Final Four, after nearly losing District, Region, and Sub-Section Championships.
*2004 SeasonIn 2004, the boy's soccer team fired back with another mediocre soccer season, playing their way through both the District and Regional levels, but bowed out to the South Laurel Cardinals in the State Sweet Sixteen.
*2005 SeasonDuring the 05-06 season, the boys (coached by Omar Prone) and the girls (coached by Matt Cook) teams brought home District titles.
*2006 Season The Warriors hired a new boys' soccer coach for the 06-07 season, former Somerset High School journeyman player James Ray. In their first season under Ray, the boys' soccer team finished with a decent season, going 11-6-3 on the season finishing as the 30th district runners up

Football
The Southwestern Warrior football program has long been regarded as a regional powerhouse, despite being in the same district (and therefore, region) as 5 time state champion Boyle County. The Warriors have reached the Class 3A state quarterfinals many times, and the 2006 season was the first time they made it to the regional final .
*2006 SeasonDuring the 2006 season, the Warriors accomplished perhaps the best season in school history. The Warriors finished with a 9-4 regular record, including an undefeated 7-0 record in district play. However, Southwestern lost a heartbreaker to Louisville Central in the state quarterfinals, 47-40.Music Department
With the hiring of Dan Carpenter as head of the Music Department in 2002, all of the Southwestern Bands started growing and becoming true competitors.
Bands

Marching Band During the 03-04 year the "Marching Band" simply worked on rhythm reading and creativity by playing on trash cans. In the 04-05 year the band put "Cirque du Soleil" on the field. During the During the 05-06 school year with the show "Jesus Christ Superstar," the Warrior Band qualified for KMEA State Quarterfinals for the first time in Southwestern history. In the 06-07, the band once again qualified for KMEA State Quarterfinals, but once again did not place in the top 8 to make Semifinals.*Symphonic BandIn the spring, the band plays 3 pieces at a Concert Festival at the Center for Rural Development, and receives a score of Novice, Apprentice, Proficient, or Distinguished (4-1). In the spring of 2005, the symphonic band made an Apprentice overall. In 2006 and 2007, playing grade 4 music (on a scale of 1-6), the band received Proficients. In 2008, playing grade 4 music, the band received straight Distinguisheds from all judges and went on to State Concert Festival in Louisville.

Wind Ensemble The Wind Ensemble is a new group that started in 2006. It is composed of 30-40 members of the Symphonic and Marching Bands, and normally plays grade 5 music. In Concert Festival 2006, the Wind Ensemble received an overall Proficient. In 2007, they received straight 1's (Distinguished) and qualified for State Festival in Louisville.*
Jazz Band The Jazz Band is an extra-curricular band for saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar and rhythm instrument players. The Jazz Band plays every year at the band's spring concert.References
