Pickupcat

Pickupcat

PickUpCat is a ship concept developed and invented in Norway during the 1990's by the Norwegian marine engineer Dag O. Aavitsland. The main idea is that the engine module and the cargo modules of a ship can be separated and thus save a significant amount of time while loading and unloading.

An example: One engine module can have three cargo modules "attached" to it so that while one cargo module is being loaded, and another is being unloaded, the third is at sea with the engine module en route to be either loaded or unloaded. Even though the concept has never been built it is claimed that the concept will save a significant amount of money for the owners in both building- and operating costs. This concept can be used in most areas of shipping but is particularly well suited for oil tankers, watertankers and bulkcarriers.
