Opened in 1990, the Gold Strike is a hotel and casino located in Jean, Nevada, approximately convert|13|mi|km from the California state line, and about convert|32|mi|km from downtown Las Vegas. The hotel, owned by MGM Mirage, has 811 rooms and several different places to eat. With its former sister hotel located across the freeway, the now-demolished Nevada Landing Hotel and Casino, the two casinos offered convert|70000|sqft|m2|abbr=on. of gaming space with more than 1,600 slot machines.
History
On February 12, 2007 MGM Mirage announced plans to close the Nevada Landing Hotel and Casino and build a master planned community on the convert|166|acre|km2 it owns in the area in a joint venture with American Nevada Corp. and the Cloobeck Cos. The Gold Strike Hotel and Gambling Hall would remain open.
