- Bio21 Institute
The Bio21 Institute of Molecular Science and Biotechnology is an Australian research centre based at the
University of Melbourne . The centre focuses on the study of pure and applied biotechnological sciences.Established in 2002 and officially opened in 2005, the research centre was intended as an initiative to promote interdiciplinary learning and houses biochemistry, cell biology, some chemistry, and other life science amongst professors and students.
In
September 2006 Bio21 formed a partnership with Australian-based gloab bio-pharmaceutical companyCSL Limited . 50 scientists from CSL were relocated to participate in activities at the Bio21. From the partnership Bio21 hoped to gain expertise of industry professionals, while CSL would gain access to state-of-the-art equipment.
