Barbara Roles

Barbara Ann Roles Williams (born April 6, 1941 in San Mateo, California) is an American former figure skater who currently works as a coach. She won the bronze medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics, then retired and had a child. She was asked to come out of retirement after the Sabena Flight 548 crashed and killed the entire 1961 US Figure Skating Team. [Nichols, Nikki. ISBN 1-57860-260-2.] Roles complied and won the gold medal at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1962 making her the first skaterFact|date=June 2007 to win a gold medal in novice, junior and senior nationals. She held this title alone until Kimmie Meisner (who skates at the same rink where Roles Williams coachesFact|date=June 2007) did the same thing when she won national seniors in 2007.

She later took up coaching; her pupils have included Lisa-Marie Allen, Wendy Burge , Nicole Bobek, Brian Pockar and Vikki DeVries-Chrysler. She is also the step motherFact|date=June 2007 and former coach of U.S. skater Scott Williams. She currently coaches Geoffry Varner.
