Frederick William Richmond (born
November 15, 1923) was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representativesfrom New York.
Richmond was born in
Boston, Massachusetts. He served in the United States Navyfrom 1943 until 1945. He graduated from Boston Universityin 1945. He served as deputy finance chairman of the Democratic National Committeefrom 1958 until 1960. He was a delegate to the 1964 Democratic National Convention. He was a member of the New York City Councilfrom 1973 until 1974. He was elected to Congress in 1974 and represented New York's 14th congressional districtfrom January 3, 1975until August 25, 1982.

In his fourth term in Congress, Richmond was charged with

He resigned his seat as part of a plea agreement and was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison and fined $20,000 for the marijuana possession and making illegal payment to a government employee. Richmond was one of the wealthiest members of Congress,fact|date=July 2007 and he engaged in a wide array of civic and charitable activities in New York. In college, he supported himself by playing the
pianoand forming the Freddie Richmond Swing Band. Then he made, and lost, and made again, a fortune in the import-export business.
He is currently a resident of
New York City.
