Prince Andrew High School is a Canadian public school, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. It is operated by the Halifax Regional School Board (HRSB) and is now an International Baccalaureate (IB) world school, offering the Diploma program.

Over 1200 students currently attend, and the graduating class of 2007 will have approximately 350 students.

The school was built in 1959 and has gone through numerous renovations throughout the years, now boasting the largest auditorium east of Montreal, and a second gymnasium added in renovation. Additionally, upgrades to the cafeteria and auditorium have given them a more modern design.

History

The school was built in 1959. In 1970 an addition to the school created a second gym, now known as the new gym, and a new wing. The additions in 1978 and 1986 added on wings, an auditorium, and expanded the library. Prince Andrew's unofficial rival school is Dartmouth High School, with whom they play an exhibiton football game against every Thanksgiving weekend called the Turkey Bowl

Fine Arts

Prince Andrew High School's Fine Arts program has a wide variety of courses including Visual Art, Film & Video, Band, Dance, and Drama.

Each year in March, April, or May, the theater group "The PA Players" performs a play or musical, previously including:

2008: Macbeth
2007: Footloose
2006: The Crucible
2005: Twelfth Night
2004: Anything Goes
2003: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
2002: A Midsummer Night's Dream
2001: Fame

Prince Andrew often hosts the Christmas concerts of its elementary feeder schools in its Auditorium. This is largely due to the fact that under fire code, the elementary school gymnasiums are not large enough to hold the number of people that attend those events.

The school is also home to a large number a bands including several members of Thy Goat and Various Artist, whose hit 'Underground Gnome Space Station' is often requested to be performed.

The Staff

In the 2006-2007 school year there were many staff changes including a new Vice-Principal. 19 teachers retired, moved out of Nova Scotia, or changed schools largely due to a change in the Nova Scotia Teacher's Union pension plan.
