Vice Admiral Sir Geoffrey Schomberg Arbuthnot KCB, DSO (18 January 1885 -4 October 1957 ) was a BritishVice Admiral .Born in
Havant inHampshire , Arbuthnot was the son of AdmiralCharles Ramsay Arbuthnot and Emily Caroline Schomberg. He fought in theFirst World War , where he wasmentioned in dispatches and was awarded theDistinguished Service Order (DSO) in 1919. He went on to serve theRoyal Navy in a number of high posts and was made NavalAide-de-Camp toKing George VI in 1936. In 1937, he becameFourth Sea Lord of theAdmiralty and Chief of Supplies and Transport. Having been Commander-in-Chief of the Navy'sEast Indies Station in 1941, Arbuthnot was made a Knight Commander of theOrder of the Bath in the following year. He served also in theSecond World War , becoming a member of the FrenchLégion d'honneur .On
22 October 1913 , he married Jessie Marguerite Henderson, daughter of William Henderson. They had three children, two sons and one daughter.References
