Stotfield

Stotfield

Stotfield was a village in Moray, Scotland on the Moray Firth coast. It was absorbed into the expanding town of Lossiemouth at the beginning of the 20th century. Nearby Stotfield Point is the location of Lossiemouth harbour. After the harbour was constructed, many fishermen from other Moray Firth locations were attracted to it and the resulting settlement was named Branderburgh. Like Stotfield, Branderburgh became a part of Lossiemouth and no longer has separate village status.

The Stotfield fishing disaster occurred on Christmas Day 1806, when all able bodied men and boys of Stotfields's fishermen were drowned. All three vessels of the town's fishing fleet sunk in the freak storm.
