Jaaved Jaaferi is an Indian actor of substantial repute, who has acted in various Hindi movies and serials. Apart from his association with India's substantial and significant film industry, he gained approval for his performance in a Maggi tomato ketchup advertisement aired in the 1990s. He is a noted impressionist, famous for his role in Bombay Boys, starring in its hit song "I am Mumbhai". He is well known for his portrayals of Mumbai hoodlums referred to as taporis within Mumbai and the state of Maharashtra. He is currently giving dubbed commentary to the famous Japanese television show Takeshi's Castle on Pogo TV. He is the son of comedian Jagdeep.

Jaaved Jaffrey, born on 4 December 1963 in Mumbai, is the son of Syed Jawaher Ali Jaffrey (aka film actor Jagdeep). Jaaved Jaffrey made his mark in Hindi cinemas when he caricatured the role of 'taporis', the local name given to the hoodlums of Bombay. He has played various roles in Hindi movies and serials. He gained additional attention for his Maggi tomato ketchup advertisements.His dubbed commentary has been used in the famous Japanese TV show, Takeshi's Castle on Pogo TV. He is a Shia Muslim by religion. He is married to Habiba and has 2 children. He is fluent in two languages: India's widely spoken North Indian language, Hindi and English.

Film background

The film Meri Jung, released in the year 1985, gave him his first opportunity to enact the role of a villain and showcase his dancing prowess on screen. Television in the 1990s highlighted his comical abilities and prowess, extending his popularity further. The launch of cable TV, particularly MTV and it's irreverent sense of humour gave him a niche to depict his own unique brand of comedy.

He anchored the show 'Blast from the Past' with distinctive brilliance. His deadpan expressions and bilingual puns gave him a formidable fan following. As a brief example, he interpreted "What is Yaadon Ki Baraat in Hindi as "a procession of mammaries". His interpretation is actually a play of words on how certain people in India pronounce the word 'memory' - a tongue-in-cheek reminder that the film starred two memorable actresses, Zeenat Aman and Neetu Singh.

Another notable contribution by Javed Jaffrey is his performance as an anchor to the top-of-the-charts song programme, Timex Timepass, in which he shifted between the caricatures of various characters.

He won his first IIFA award for best comic role in Salaam Namaste in 2006. He hosts the dance competition show Boogie Woogie on Sony Entertainment Television Asia with his brother, Naved Jaffery and friend Ravi Behl.
