- Delta Lodge
Delta Lodge is an independent, currently in good standing [Texas Comptrollers Office lists Delta Lodge Inc. as an exempt organization in good standing] , fraternity in
Denton, Texas at theUniversity of North Texas . Established in1987 , Delta Lodge was created when fraternitySigma Alpha Mu decided to pull the charter for itsNorth Texas State University (Later renamed UNT)affliate. It is the organization that organizes the mostly annualFry Street Fair .After a fire destroyed the fraternity house at 1305 W. Oak in Denton, Texas in 1995, a new, expensive house was eventually constructed under the direction of older alumni who couldn't let go of the past - or pay their rent. Financial mismanagement caused the house to eventually became a financial burden that the chapter could not afford, [leading the Board of Directors of Delta Lodge, Inc. to recommend selling the property.]
“The house and the fair essentially are distractions for us; it allowed some members to lose sight of the fact of what we were all about,” Kaastad said. “They didn’t help us achieve our goal of providing to charity, so we’re making some changes.” [Quoted in June 21, 2007 Denton Record Chronicle article]
Kaastad also said "Now I'll have to find a new way to find my rent-a-friends since my total financial mismanagement lead to the demise of the fraternity. I know I'm way too old to be playing fraternity, but heck, I must have something to prove or maybe I just don't have a life that includes adults, you know, people I can't control."
The Delta Lodge has alumni members all over the country. This includes two sisters working on post-graduate degrees at NYU.
It is a coed fraternity with proud members of both sexes. It resides in a large house in the Fry Street area designed and built by the frat. It was built to replace the house on that same property that had burned down almost a decade before.
*** Correction: This is being written by an actual NTSU Sammy from 1980-84. Our house (owned by our landlord 'Moses') was still standing in 1984. Despite our extreme antics (which apparently included burning down our house, ultimately), we held the highest GPA on campus among all the Greeks for multiple years running. This was due to the diligence of our fearless leader (KM) monitoring each members performance and therefore our ability to drop and retake specific classes until we could do it right (sometimes the second or third time). Unfortunately, that is also why we took an average of 6 or 7 years to get out of school. However it should be noted that most late 70's early 80's Sammys are now very successful professionals. To the fresh ones - Keep the Faith, Brothers and Sisters... ***
As of December 2007, discussions among members and alumni are ongoing how to reorganize and revitalize the organization. There is also active discussion by members of the Alpha Mu chapter whether to follow the founding Delta Lodge members actions in separating from Sigma Alpha Mu to create the next generation named [mailto:dam@project8.us Delta Alpha Mu] .

THere is no such thing as Delta Alpha Mu. Jeff, get a life, get original and stop trying to steal form the Lodge.
The First paragraph is 90% true. Kind of lame when the writer refers to himself in 3rd person though using quotes. I think that loosing thousands of dollars on each Fry Street Fair didn't help the house situation either. Yes, for some reason no one thought that no one would want to live in a house that had parties 24/7 and smelled of beer and the ones that did spent their money on beer and not rent.
I can't believe there is no mention of the once annual haunted house. I was the pledge class president in 1989/90. I made it all the way to the last weekend of pledging until my now wife gave me the ultimatum...leave Delta or I leave you. Since I guess I am still married, you can figure out my choice. Nonetheless, the brohers were the best and still treated me as family the rest of my time at NTSU/UNT. So back to the haunted house. That had to be my favorite. People drove from everywhere to see it. Talk about a scary basement.
