Steven Curtis Henderson (born November 18, by|1952 in city-state|Houston|Texas) is a former left fielder in Major League Baseball. In 12 seasons, he played in 1,085 games and had 3,484 at bats, 459 runs, 976 hits, 162 doubles, 49 triples, 68 home runs, 428 RBI, 79 stolen bases, 386 walks, .280 batting average, .352 on base percentage, .413 slugging percentage, 1,440 total bases, 11 sacrifice hits, 22 sacrifice flies and 32 intentional walks.

Originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the fifth round of the June by|1974 draft, Henderson joined the Mets on June 15, 1977 as part of the infamous "Saturday Night Masacre." He, Doug Flynn, Dan Norman and Pat Zachry were traded to the Mets in exchange for Tom Seaver. The Mets also dealt Dave Kingman to the San Diego Padres for Bobby Valentine and Paul Siebert, and Mike Phillips to the St. Louis Cardinals for Joel Youngblood that same night.

He debuted with the Mets the following day against the Houston Astros, and for the season, finished 2nd in voting to Andre Dawson for National League Rookie of the Year after having played in 99 games and having a .297 batting average in 350 at bats, with 12 home runs, 65 runs batted in, 67 runs, 104 hits, sixteen doubles, six triples, six stolen bases, 43 base on balls, .372 on base percentage, .480 slugging percentage, 168 total bases, 4 sacrifice flies and two intentional walks. He led the National League in grounding into double plays (24) in by|1978.

Prior to the start of the 1981 season, the Mets reacquired Dave Kingman from the Chicago Cubs for Henderson. Steve played two seasons with the Cubs. He also played with the Seattle Mariners (by|1983-by|1984), Oakland Athletics (by|1985-by|1987) and Houston Astros (by|1988).

He is currently the hitting coach for the Tampa Bay Rays and also graduated with degrees in Multimedia and Political Science from McMaster University in by|2006.
