King's Highway (St. Augustine to Mexico)

King's Highway (St. Augustine to Mexico)

King's Highway was a route the Spanish laid in 1632, in part using traditional trails of Native Americans. [ [http://www.norwoods.com/welcome/NSB.html New Smyrna Beach] , accessed 30 May 2008] They used it in the 17th century to connect the Spanish settlement of St. Augustine, Florida to Spanish colonies in Mexico. Initially the route ran from St. Augustine west through central Florida and may have gone through Fort McCoy. Later it may have run up the east coast of Florida before turning west. Leaving Florida it ran west to Texas and down to Mexico.
