Dan Miller (television journalist/personality)

Dan Miller (born September 30, 1941) is an American television personality who grew up in Augusta, Georgia. He is a longtime news anchorman for WSMV in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning his work with the station in 1969. He gained fame in the United States as the announcer and sidekick for his friend and one-time WSM-TV (the station's callsign prior to 1981) colleague, Pat Sajak, during Sajak's short-lived CBS late-night talk show, "The Pat Sajak Show".

"Miller & Company"

In the early 1990s, Miller hosted his own cable talk show, "Miller & Company," on TNN. "Miller & Company" previously had aired on WSMV during the 1970s and 1980s and was brought back for a national cable audience on TNN. It was during an October 30, 1982 interview where he got Reba McEntire into a laughing fit over her favorite things to cook: "Mountain oysters" (which are actually cattle testicles). That interview is credited with landing Reba a guest spot on "The Today Show" and other national exposure, providing a considerable boost to her career.

Other activities

Dan Miller left WSMV from 1986 to 1994. He was lured away to be a news anchor at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles during 1986 and 1987. After "Miller & Company", Miller was offered his old job as lead anchor at WSMV. His replacement from his 1986 depature, Jeff McAtee, left the station after refusing a demotion to make way for Miller's return; McAtee has worked for several stations since.

Miller appeared in the CBS movie, "Big Dreams & Broken Hearts: The Dottie West Story", which featured Michele Lee as Dottie West.

He also was a guest on "Hollywood Squares" during 1989.

Miller is a prolific writer of essays about life on and off the television screen, at * [http://www.danmiller.typepad.com/ Dan Miller's Notebook]
