- Ghetto Blaster (band)
"Ghetto Blaster" was an alternative Rock act out of Columbia, SC led by Kipp Shives. In the mid 1990s, the group released the album "Sanctified Lady" in 1996 and were briefly wooed by
Hootie & the Blowfish 's Darius Rucker for his Breaking Records label. Backed by Milton Hall on bass, Scott Taylor on guitar, and the awesome percussion of Brian "Chicken" Kennedy, the group released primarily on Edisto records and their own DIY label. Their music, revolving around a basic four-chord rock pattern, is akin to a more orchestrated Flat Duo Jets or White Stripes. Other "official" releases included a four-way split 7 inch with Daniell Howle, Hall of Fame and Conway on Edisto and Eras of Rock a 1995 cassette. Both Sanctified Lady and Eras of Rock were recorded by Athen's semi-famous Dave Barbe. In 2000 Shives and Hall teamed with Jeff South on drums, to record the unreleased Earthquake Earache at the Jam Room in Columbia. Since Earthquake, Shives and friends have recorded another unreleased album with Barbe.Ghetto Blaster continues to entertain today with bassist Byron Chitty and drummer Adam Cox.
