Edoid languages

Edoid languages

The Edoid languages are some 25 or 30 languages spoken in Southern Nigeria, predominantly in the former Bendel State. The Edoid group belongs to Benue-Congo, itself a branch of Volta-Congo and ultimately Niger-Congo; the name of the group derives from its most widely spoken member, Edo (5 million speakers). Edoid can be divided into four subfamilies: Delta, North-Central, Northwestern, and Southwestern.
