Ott was a first round draft pick of the Stars 25th overall at the2000 NHL Entry Draft . He played junior hockey for the OHL'sWindsor Spitfires and had a brief spell with theUtah Grizzlies of the AHL before joining the main Stars roster.Ott represented Canada at the
2001 World Junior Hockey Championship , helping the team win the bronze medal. During the2004–05 NHL lockout , Ott played for theHamilton Bulldogs of the AHL where he set a team record for penalty minutes in a season, earning 279.Ott was suspended by the NHL for three games due to an illegal hit on
Jordan Leopold of theColorado Avalanche during a game onMarch 9 ,2008 . For the hit, which left Leopold injured, Ott took both his feet off the ice and his elbow may also have made contact with Leopold's head.Before beginning his professional hockey career, Ott raced outboard hydroplanes and runabouts in the
