Ruby Hart Phillips

Ruby Hart Phillips was a journalist for the New York Times. She covered Cuba as chief correspondent on the island from 1937 to 1961. She, unlike other reporters more friendly to Fidel Castro from the New York Times, had her home confiscated by Castro [http://scholar.library.miami.edu/cubamoderate/archive.php] . She was an important conduit of information on Cuba [http://www.latinamericanstudies.org/cable/cable-6-10-52.htm] . She arranged the Herbert Matthews visit to the Sierra Maestra, however firmly anti-communist, her political views were considerably different from those of Matthews.
