Rob Short

Rob Short

Rob ("Shorty") Short (born August 11, 1972 in Maidstone, England) is a professional field hockey player from Tsawwassen, BC in Canada.

Career

Short played his first international senior tournament in 1995, at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. Highlights include the 1998 World Cup in The Netherlands where the Canadian team finished 8th with Rob scoring 4 goals in the 7 games. In 2000 he competed with the national hockey team of Canada at the Summer Olympics in Sydney, where the team finished 10th. A recent win (over Argentina in strokes) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at the Pan American Games means Rob will compete in his second Olympic Games in Beijing in the summer of 2008. Short now plays club hockey at the highest level in the Netherlands since 1999; HGC for 6 years, 3 years with HC Rotterdam and now playing his first season at Laren.

In the summer of 2006 he returned to HGC. His return gave the team such a boost that they managed to finish, against all odds, second in the league. The club's best performance in 11 years. After a successful move from living in Rotterdam to now living in Amsterdam, Rob is attempting to find similar success with his new club Laren. Rob is the captain of both Laren and the captain of the Canadian Olympic side. Team-mates at Laren include brother Peter Short, three players from the Argentinian national team (Matti Cammererri, Lucas Cammererri, and Lucas Rey, and two Polish players (Arek and Miro). His brother Peter Short also represents Canada. Short is also the very proud Godfather of a little boy, Tom (referred to by Rob as "Tomeo")

Shorty is also the owner of Mantis Hockey Ltd., which distributes Voodoo and Gryphon sticks across North America. For more information see website at [www.mantishockey.com]
