He attended theUniversity of Virginia (graduating in 1970 with a degree inhistory ) andColumbia Law School , but during his final year in law school, decided to pursue a career in music after graduating in 1973. He was a part of the 1980sGreenwich Village folk renaissance, performing at clubs such as Speakeasy,The Bottom Line ,Folk City , and the songwriter workshops at theCornelia Street Cafe . His signature song is "American Jerusalem", about the divide between rich and poor people inNew York City . He lives inDelray Beach, Florida .Events
On May 28th, MacDonald led a two-day workshop called 'Songwriting for Self Expression' at the New York Open Center [http://www.opencenter.org] in Manhattan. The workshop, intended for beginning and intermediate songwriters, emphasized finding inspiration and effectively translating ideas into songs.
