- Whitin Observatory
Whitin Observatory is an astronomical
observatory owned and operated byWellesley College . Built in 1901, it is located in Wellesley,Massachusetts and named afterWellesley College trustee Mrs. John C. Whitin (Sara E. Whitin), who donated the funds for the observatory. AstronomerSarah Frances Whiting was the first director of the newWellesley College Astronomy Department.The facilities include a 24-inch Boller & Chivens Reflector with a CCD and retrofitted with a DFM control system, a 12" Fitz/Clark Refractor, a 6" Alvan Clark Refractor, a Hale Spectrohelioscope, an MIT Haystack Small Radio Telescope, and six Meade 8" SCTs.
