Lancashire ,England , forming part of a cluster of sites along the Lunevalley , each with evidence of amotte - as with Melling and Whittington. Arkholme has no survivingbailey . This is the densest distribution of Norman castles outside of the Welsh border countryside.Arkholme was served by the
Furness and Midland Joint Railway branch line, until 1960. A tunnel took the line from Melling to Wennington where it connected with the Midland Railway, the next station being at Arkholme.External links
