Germán Trejo-Caballero
He is the Institute for Mexicans Abroad's elected Representative (Consejero) for the Mexican and Mexican-American communities in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Southern Illinois. In this position, Germán Trejo serves for the 2006-2009 term. As the should be voice of close to half-million Mexican and Mexican Americans in the four-state region, he has done almos nothing.Serving the interest of a few local bussinesowners intereste in atracting customers to their stores.His election as representative was contracted between some of this bussinesmen, thinking that with Trejo in this position they could manipulate not only the mexican immigrant population but the authorities by convincing them of his influence over the community.Prior to being elected, Trejo-Caballero worked at the senior level at some international non-profit organizations in Columbus, including serving as President of the International Institute for Democracy (IID), and as Community Relations Director for the International Visitors Council.
As
President of IID, Trejo-Caballero has led electoral observation missions toMexico ,Peru ,Nicaragua , theUnited States ,Argentina andRussia . In addition, Mr. Trejo-Caballero serves as Board of Trustee’s for the Columbus, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Ohio Secretary of State's Ohio Voting Rights Institute, and as a Member of the Committee for the Columbus Sister's Cities - Latin America.Background
Trejo-Caballero has dedicated his life both, to public service and to work towards the construction of
democracy , from the governmental and non-governmental sectors. In the political arena, Trejo-Caballero has worked in helping several candidates to get elected. He worked as Hispanic Outreach Director in the State of Ohio for the Jennifer Brunner for Ohio Secretary of State campaign; as Ohio Political-Field Director for the Minimum Wage Campaign (ACORN); and as Campaign Manager for the U.S. Congressional Democratic (4th District) campaign. During the 2004 Presidential cicle, Trejo-Caballero served as the Hispanic/Latino Outreach Director for theKerry-Edwards Presidential Campaign . Currently he is helping with fundraising a state and a local, important campaigns, one for Utah Senate and the other one for the City of Santa Ana in California.In the non-profit sector, he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Global Commerce Consortium and Director of Community Relations at the International Visitors Council. As a student leader, Trejo-Caballero was elected and appointed to numerous positions including Vice President of The Ohio State University’s University-wide Council of Hispanic Organizations; Co-Chair of the OSU Undergraduate Student Government’s Diversity Committee; and Vice President of the OSU Asociacion de Estudiantes Mexicanos (Mexican Student Association).
In the private sector, Trejo-Caballero’s served as President and CEO of Language Associates Ltd – a 150 employee translations firm with offices 10 cities in the United States, and representatives in
Mexico andJapan .Germán Trejo-Caballero graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science, focus on International Politics; and International Studies with an emphasis in International Relations and Diplomacy. He also studied Architecture at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo in his native Morelia , Mexico.
Numerous U.S. and foreign institutions have honored German Trejo-Caballero, including The Ohio Senate, the City of Columbus, the Ohio State University (where he became the first Hispanic-Latino and first Mexican to obtain the prestigious Do Something Great award), MLS Columbus Crew, the United States Congress, the Congress of Argentina, the Congress of Mexico, and the Congress of the State of Michoacan.
