hill in the wide expanse of hill country in SouthernScotland , theSouthern Uplands , and the highest for 30 miles in all directions. It is only ten feet lower than its parent, Merrick. Like many of its neighbours it is smooth, rounded and grassy, although the surrounding valleys have very steep sides — country somewhat akin to theCheviots or theHowgill Fells . The hill may be climbed from any of the villages near its base, or as part of a long, 30-mile trek across the local area between the towns ofPeebles andMoffat . There is a radio tower on the summit, one of the highest in Britain.
