- Scotland, Virginia
Scotland (also known as Scotland Wharf) is an unincorporated community in Surry County,
Virginia ,United States . It is located on State Route 31 (the John Rolfe Highway). Scotland is the location of the southern terminal and headquarters of theJamestown Ferry , a service across the James River which is operated by theVirginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).Many visitors (approaching from the south) to Virginia's
Historic Triangle of Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown arriving by automobile or tour bus choose to approach the colonial attractions via Scotland and the ferry service. This avoids traffic approaching Jamestown from the north via the Colonial Parkway and SR-31.However, another advantage of boarding the ferry at Scotland and sailing for Jamestown is that the ferry route across the river travels slightly upstream, approaching and viewing
Jamestown Island by water, much as the original colonists may have when they arrived in1607 . Replicas of the "Susan Constant ", "Godspeed ", and "Discovery" are docked near the northern ferry terminus atGlasshouse Point in James City County, and also can been seen from the ferry was it approaches the dock.See also
