title="Bold & Delicious" (2005)
description=Hamasaki took new directions on "(miss)understood", as epitomized by the single "Bold & Delicious", a funk-influenced song that used a gospel-style chorus.
The PV for Bold & Delicious was shot in New York. Ayumi has long wavy brown hair, and she is wearing a faux fur jacket with a light pink dress. In some shots, the video even has a "behind the scenes" feel to it. This is Hamasaki's 25th #1 single, which ties her with Seiko Matsuda for the most amount of #1 singles by a female artist, and is also her 13th #1 single in a row. However, overall the single is considered to have weaker sales in comparison to her other singles (there were only 83,708 copies sold in the first week in comparison to her past several singles which all sold between 160,000 and 170,000 copies in their first weeks) and would narrowly outsell the number two single (which was in its fifth week on the charts) by 1,340 copies. This is Hamasaki's weakest single (sales figures-wise) since "forgiveness" in 2003 and her lowest selling single since her 1998 effort "Depend on You" (which it barely outsold). It should be noted that the album, as well as all of Hamasaki's previous albums, are available for download on Apple's Japanese iTunes Music Store, in which purchases aren't accounted for in the Oricon charts.

Reasons postulated is the proximity of the release date of her upcoming album on January 1, 2006. People would rather wait for just one more month for this album, which incorporates both songs of this single. Also, the style of this song is very different from anything she has done previously, and possibly alienated many of her fans.

The song was originally composed by Geo of sweetbox, and was featured on their Addicted album. Ayumi had bought a number of their albums, however, and — upon deciding she loved them so much, got permission from Geo to use a few of their compositions for her (miss)understood album — she wrote her own lyrics for these songs.
