fictional character from the 1980s cartoon series "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe " byFilmation .He appears in one episode "The Great Books Mystery", from the show's second season, in which he is the main villain. Half-man and half-
bat , he is described as "King of the Bat People" although no other members of his race are ever seen.Character profile
In his singular appearance on the cartoon series, Batros is responsible for the theft of the Great Books of
Eternia , from the Royal Library, in a scheme to steal the knowledge of the Eternians. It is claimed that he dwells permanently on the dark side of Eternia, and it seems his name is known throughout the planet, as when he is revealed as being responsible for the crime,Prince Adam remarks that he thought Batros only dwelled on Eternia's dark side. Batros hides the books in the Temple of the Sun, and afterSkeletor learns of Batros' crime, he sends his henchmenBeast-Man andTrap-Jaw out to recruit Batros, knowing he will benefit from an ally of greater intelligence. Batros is, however, a largely independent villain and is hesitant at first to ally with Skeletor, having to be coerced into helping Skeletor in an invasion ofCastle Grayskull .Batros wears a red bat symbol on his chest, which bears a resemblance to the symbol worn by the warriors of the
Evil Horde , who were released inMattel 'sMasters of the Universe toy line shortly after. It is most likely a coincidence given that Batros appears on the show before the release of the Horde figures, but it has led some fans to speculate about a possible link between Batros and the Horde.2002 Series
While Batros does not feature, a race of bat-like creatures called Speleans are seen. They live in Subternia, Eternia's underground kingdom. This may well be the race Batros is descended from.
