He started his career with
Vestmannaeyjar team ÍBV, and also played with KR, ÍA and Fram in the Icelandic league before moving toS.K. Brann in 1996, where he is still considered as a hero, after his efforts in the cupwinnercup in 1997, where SK Brann reached the quarter finals. Failing to make a solid impression there, he moved on to spells withIFK Norrköping ,Bolton Wanderers and Lustenau. In 1999 he returned to ÍBV, and played there since, only interrupted by a spell inStoke City in 2000/01. His brother Magnús Kristinsson, a businessman, was the chairman of Stoke Holding, the Icelandicconsortium which at the time owned Stoke City.International career
He earned 74 caps for the
