Brad Turcotte (born November 14 1976), a member of the one man band Brad Sucks, was among the first musicians to take full advantage of the Free Culture movement for advertising and distribution.

Turcotte opened his website in 2002 with the intention of producing "open source music". His self-produced single, "Brad Sucks One", included the audio source files used to create the finished files, and later he posted these source files to his website along with the MP3s.

Turcotte waives all rights to his songs essentially making them public domain. This total freedom allows him to promote his music through sites such as Magnatune and ccMixter, as well as MySpace and Podsafe. Since he was one of the first to make this decision, he also received free publicity through blogs and interviews in free culture magazines. His first full CD, "I Don't Know What I'm Doing", was released both through Magnatune and a limited "professional" printing from his own website.

On August 3, 2003 Turcotte entered a song in a Song Fight! contest titled " [http://www.songfight.org/songpage.php?key=bad_attraction Bad Attraction] ", and won by a wide margin.

Turcotte also runs the website [http://www.stripcreator.com/ stripcreator.com] , which allows participants to create their own talking-head webcomics. He is also the creator of [http://www.in4mador.com in4mador] , an aggregator of user-submitted "interesting" links.

Brad's most recent album was released on 8 September 2008, and is called [http://www.bradsucks.net/albums/out_of_it/ Out of It] .

The internet movie "Wrath Of The 1337 King" used several songs from the "I Don't Know What I'm Doing" album and credited Turcotte at the end of the movie, under his pseudonym Brad Sucks. The film, a parody of internet gamers, was created by former members of the NEE political party from Belgium, under their banner of movieLOL productions.
