Marguerite Perrin

Marguerite Perrin (born March 10, 1961) was a cast member of the FOX network reality show "Trading Spouses". She appeared both in the two-part premiere of the second season as well as another two-part episode in season three. Perrin and her family hail from Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

Marguerite Perrin first appeared on "Trading Spouses" in the two-part premiere which aired November 2 and November 9, 2005. Marguerite professed to be a strong Christian, and traded homes with a New Age humanist, Jeanne D'Amico Flisher, from Boxborough, Massachusetts. While on the show, Marguerite displayed erratic behavior including a vociferous attitude, yelling, unexplained vomiting and continuous proselytization.

During her stay with the exchange family, Marguerite attempted to convert them to Christianity, speaking with the three children and the father, Chris Flisher, individually. Later Marguerite asked them to visit church with her, which they obligingly did, but she vehemently refused to hear any words from Chris on the host family's own beliefs and practices and became upset and confrontational when further questioned, claiming that Chris was "pushing her buttons".

The mother who visited Marguerite's family avoided mention of topics such as astrology, but did attempt hypnotherapy on Perrin's eldest daughter Ashley (with Ashley's consent) to induce weight loss as she was trying to lose weight at the time.

When Ashley insisted that she had been praying for her, Marguerite stated that it wasn't enough, and appeared to blame Ashley for her ordeal. Also during this family reunion, her husband at one point remarks, "Bullshit warrior..." under his breath, after constant reference by Marguerite to being a "God warrior", "spiritual warrior", and "prayer warrior".

As part of the show, each woman got to decide how the other family should spend the $50,000 that was given at the end for participating in the program. Marguerite Perrin initially refused the $50,000 because the D'Amico-Flishers, the camera crew, and the money were, in her words, "tainted" and "dark-sided". Between screaming fits about the "ungodliness" of her Massachusetts hosts and their home, she ripped the envelope containing a letter from Jeanne instructing her on how her family should spend their show winnings. At the close of the show, it was revealed that "upon further review" Perrin later accepted the money.

Similar claims are made by the Abbott family, who appeared in season one of the show. She states that she actually liked her host family, and that they got along fairly well.

In an interview with the "Los Angeles Times", when on the topic of her televised freak-out, Marguerite said, "When my family watched the show this last week, instead of seeing the humor that everybody else saw and all the Psycho Mom, they cried... I didn't cry at my party but I cried when I got in my bed because it was very sad to me to see me so upset. In October 2006, Marguerite released a CD titled "Sit Down Comedy", including the single, "Why Can't You Be Sweet'", through her website. In October 2006, Perrin agreed to tape another episode of "Trading Spouses". She had used her winnings from the previous season to undergo gastric bypass surgery and had lost nearly 100 lbs. as of the show's airing. Since their first appearance on the show, the Perrins were affected by Hurricane Katrina, Barry having lost his job. Her new spouse, Abasi Malone, was revealed to be a black nationalist, and spoke of little other than race relations. Marguerite, meanwhile, maintained that she was race-blind and extended this ideology to Abasi. However this came to a standstill later that week, when Abasi threw a barbecue and resolved to shut Marguerite away from his conversations and his friends. Perrin later remarked that she felt "unwelcome" and "wasn't treated like a human being" in the Malone-Brown house.

The mother who stayed with the Perrins, LaToya Brown, did not draw as much attention to herself and Abasi's beliefs as the latter did, but did spar with Marguerite's friends over the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, particularly in regards to the black community.

In dividing up the money for the Malone-Browns, Marguerite allotted $1,500 to their daughter for a piano and the remaining funds to be disbursed to the daughter on her 18th birthday. She gave Abasi a CD of Aretha Franklin's song, "Respect".

From LaToya Brown the Perrins were allotted: $10,000 for their daughter Brooke to study dance abroad; another $10,000 for home maintenance; and $20,000 for Barry to assist in finding a job. Lastly, $10,000 went to Marguerite under the requisite that she run a half marathon to augment her weight loss, which Marguerite found "disrespectful".

The bobblehead

A homemade, talking bobblehead doll of Marguerite Perrin was made by a fan and sold on eBay for $870. Thinking the doll was funny, Marguerite autographed a picture of herself holding a picture of the bobblehead doll. Jay Leno purchased the doll and surprised her with it as a gift on his November 29, 2005 show.

Daughter's death

On September 25, 2007, Perrin's 25 year old daughter, Ashley, died in a one vehicle traffic accident in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. She was driving alone in her vehicle when it hit the guard rail while traveling north on Interstate 55 Southeast Service Road. Ashley Perrin was ejected from the vehicle, and she died at the scene.
