Rama VI Bridge was the first bridge to cross the
Chao Phraya river. It was officially openend onJanuary 1 ,1923 and named after KingVajiravudh (Rama VI). The 442 m long and 10 m wide bridge originally had two lanes, one for the railroad and one for cars. DuringWorld War II the bridge was heavily damaged. The reconstructed bridge was re-openend onDecember 12 ,1953 . In 1992 the car lane was closed and taken over by the new Rama VII bridge nearby, so the bridge is now a railway bridge only.Traffic

Photos of the subway station saying "To Bang Sue" are circulating on the internet. However, the joke only works when reading romanized Thai name with English pronunciation.
