The college used to be known by the acronym "SCAT", but in
2004 , whilst the full name of the college remained the same, the college changed its informal name to simply Shrewsbury College, allegedly due to prospective parents and students searching for the college using thekeyword 'scat ' and being exposed to unrelated and potentially offensive material. Applicants to the college from GCSE-level are requested to use the code 'S-Cat' instead of SCAT.The college has two campuses. The main campus is based on
London Road in Shrewsbury whilst the other campus is based in theRadbrook area of Shrewsbury. At one stage there were other campuses atMonkmoor , in Shrewsbury, previously a boys' school, and in the town ofBridgnorth . The college has working environments for students including a restaurant, a salon and a coffee shopbistro .The college competes with
Shrewsbury Sixth Form College which aims at more academic courses and less vocational options. The other nearest technology college is located in Telford,Telford College of Arts & Technology .University connections
When it comes to
Higher Education , the college has a partnership with theGlyndŵr University inWrexham for teacher training programmes, and withStaffordshire University for other areas of thecurriculum . The college is a founder member of theStaffordshire University Regional Federation (SURF Consortium). Every year, the college holds a Higher Awards Ceremony inShrewsbury Abbey .External links
