Gauhara Begum

Gauhara Begum

Gauhara Begum (June 17, 1631-1706) was the fourteenth and final child of the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan I, and his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz Mahal died giving birth to her. Gauhara, however, survived the tragic birth and lived for another 75 years. Like most Mughal princesses at this time, though, Gauhara probably never married. Little is known about her and whether she was involved in the war of succession for her father's throne. Gauhara died in 1706, at the age of 75, of unknown causes, but most likely of old age or disease.
