- Patrecia Scott
Patrecia Wynand (
January 23 1940 -March 31 1977 ) was born Patrecia Gullison in Canada, and was a successful model and television and theatrical actress. In the early 1960s she met and became romantically involved with
Nathaniel Branden , a psychologist, lecturer on philosophy, and lover ofAyn Rand . Branden claims Rand's anger and jealousy over his affair with Patrecia to have triggered his expulsion from the Objectivist movement in 1968. [http://www.noblesoul.com/orc/bio/brandens.html] His account, however, is disputed inJames S. Valliant 's book "The Passion of Ayn Rand's Critics."After Patrecia's divorce from Larry Scott, she decided she needed a new last name. Rand suggested that she use "Wynand" after a character in her novel "
The Fountainhead ". It became her professional name.In 1968, she and Branden moved to California and married. In 1977, Patrecia died by drowning at home due to what was thought to be an epileptic seizure triggered by sunlight off the water in the pool while feeding their dog.
