Princess Violet

Princess Violet

Princess Violet is a fictional character in the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.

Description

Princess Violet is a little girl with stubby fingers, a plump neck, a big nose, and long, dull, brown hair. She is the daughter of Queen Milena and the heir to the throne of Tamarang. She often wore pretty pink or pale blue satin dresses and jewelry that was too large for her. She enjoyed causing pain and misery to her playmate Rachel while she was in the palace, as well as modeling her mother's fine jewelry. She had a high, squeaky, snorting laugh.

One of Princess Violet's favorite places in the palace was the Queen's jewel room. It featured a shiny, polished wall of little wooden drawers with gold handles, which held all kinds of sparkling jewelry - necklaces, bracelets, brooches, tiaras, rings, etc. In addition, there was a tall wood-framed mirror for admiring oneself in. Princess Violet would spend all day in this room, trying on one piece of jewelry after another, then primping and turning in front of the tall mirror. In addition, the jewel room held the last Box of Orden.

Princess Violet's room was down a hallway past a number of dark wooden doors with pointed tops. The door to her bedroom was similar, but larger, a double door set back in a little hall, with stone carving all around. She had a big canopy bed and a bedcover with flowers that matched the canopy and curtains. The room also featured a large, lockable, metal box that she would force Rachel to sleep inside of.

Princess Violet was serverely injured when Richard Rahl kicked her in the jaw while she was torturing him under the guidance of the Mord'Sith Denna. Due to this injury she lost her tongue, several teeth, and suffered a broken jaw. Richard kicked her while hanging from his wrists in the dungeon of the palace of Tamarang. This attack suprised Denna greatly because he should not have been able to do so while under the control of any Mord'Sith. It was remarked by Queen Milena shortly afterwards that the palace healers didn't know if Princess Violet would survive or not. Though in the tenth book "Phantom" it is revealed that she survived and was later healed by the witch woman Six. She is also revealed to have the gift of using magic in drawings as demonstrated in the first book by the artist James. Richard Rahl's attack was not one motivated by hate, or anger, but rather pity. He kicked her in an attempt to kill her thus sparing her the fate of growing into a woman that would unthinkingly bring pain and misery to others.

It is revealed several years after the events in "Wizard's First Rule" that a witch woman by the name of Six entered Tamarang's royal castle posing as a healer and regrew Violet's tongue and repaired her jaw. Since then Violet and Six ruled Tamarang together with an iron fist, despite the fact that the Imperial Order had conquered most of the Midlands. Eventually, Six grew exasperated with Violet's ingratitude and ill-temper and seized the throne herself, reappointing Violet to the position of court artist.
