The Sacramento Sirens are a women's
semi-professional American football team, located inSacramento, California . The team has compiled one of the most successful records in women’s full tackle football. In 2001, their first year of existence, the Sirens won the divisional title and advanced to the playoffs of theWomen's American Football League . In 2002 the Sirens took the league title in the championship game against theArizona Caliente .Joining a larger league in 2003, the Independent Women's Football League (IWFL), the Sirens traveled to New York to capture their second consecutive championship title, beating the
New York Sharks , the oldest currently existing women's professional football team in theU.S. In 2004 Sacramento hosted the IWFL National Championship game where the Sirens defeated their New York rival again. A year later, inManchester, New Hampshire , the Sirens defeated theAtlanta Xplosion in the 2005 IWFL national championship.The Sacramento Sirens season begins with tryouts in the late fall and early winter followed by
rookie and veteran training camps and a three-month practice schedule. The first regular-season game takes place in late April, and the season concludes with the championship game in late July. A typical season will feature a preseason game, eight to ten regular season games and two playoff games, including a division championship and a conference championship.Championship games
