- Neo-Taino
Neo-Taíno are the
pre-Colombian indigenousAmerindian inhabitants ofCuba , the Lucaya of theBahamas ,Jamaica , and to a lesser extent ofHaiti andQuisqueya (approximately theDominican Republic ) as opposed to theTaíno ofBoriquen (Puerto Rico ). Some scholars consider it important to distinguish the neo-Taíno nations from the originalTaíno , since the neo-Taíno had far more diverse cultural input and a greater societal andethnic heterogeneity than the originalTaíno .Fact|date=February 2007Taíno studies are in a state of both vigorous revival and conflict (Haslip-Viera, 2001). In this conflict deeply imbedded cultural mores, senses of nationality and ethnicity struggle with each other. Neo-Taíno nations and related
ethnic groups (following Granberry and Vescelius, 2004) include:*
