Blomberg B

The Blomberg B was a "B" diesel locomotive truck. These trucks were the standard EMD truck from the FT up until the Dash 2 line. EMD introduced the truck in 1936. Unofficially it is named after Martin Blomberg, who joined the company the year before. The truck is a modified six wheel truck for use starting with the FT, described in US patent|2,189,125, filed January 29, 1938, and approved February 6, 1940. Blomberg trucks can be identified by their prominent outside swing hangers, which afford a better ride during side-to-side movement. The outside placement has the advantage of widening its spring base from 56 inches to 96 inches (1422 mm to 2438 mm).

An M version of the truck was used starting with the four-axle Dash 2 series locomotives. This had only one brake cylinder per side and one brake shoe per wheel. A hydraulic snubber was used in place of the other cylinder. The leaf springs were replaced with rubber pads.
