Algeria
HSBC France S.A. opened its first branch in
Algeria in the city ofAlgiers in June 2007. Current speculation suggests that the network could be rapidly expanded to 55 locations. Global Banking and Markets will be operational in Algeria from May 2008, according to the Financial Times. HSBC is the 13th foreign bank to be authorized to operate in Algeria and could be directed by the former head of foreign debt at the Bank Algery Rachid Sekkak, currently responsible with HSBC-Paris.
