Randall J. Heckenkemper (born 1958) began his career as a
golf course architect in the 1980s and has since designed and remodeled more than 40 golf courses across theUnited States .Born in
Tulsa, Oklahoma and a graduate ofBishop Kelley High School andOklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in landscape design, Heckenkemper began his career working under Poe and Associates Planning, Inc. as the senior land planner ofJack Nicklaus and Associates, a joint venture between Poe and Nicklaus. In 1983, recognizing an opportunity for expansion, Heckenkemper joined the partnership of Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, coordinating the design and construction of several nationally recognized golf courses. After having gained experience in zoning, master and site planning, and golf course design and construction, he ventured out on his own in 1985 and started Heckenkemper Golf Course Design.Many of Heckenkemper's courses have received honors for the quality of their design.
Forest Ridge Golf Club in Oklahoma andStonebridge Meadows Golf Club inArkansas were honored by "Golf Digest " as the number four and number 10 courses in their respective states. Also among his courses, is the Sanctuary at Westworld. This course was the first golf course inArizona and the 17th course in the world to be granted the covetedAudubon Signature Status .
