Next single ="All Mixed Up" is a hit single released by the
rapcore /punk rock /reggae band 311. It was on the album "311", also known as "The Blue Album". This album was released in 1995 and later went triple platinum, selling over 3 million copies worldwide. The song was co-written byDouglas Vincent "SA" Martinez andNick Hexum . The duo first started working on the song during the 311 tour supporting "Grassroots". After the tour Martinez wrote the lyrics about feeling "confused and being unfaithful" and Hexum took the song's title from an earlyElvis Presley interview in which Elvis claimed he was "all mixed up" over his new-found fame. The music video is filmed in New York City, and it features the band going into a masssage parlor, in a taxi cab, and even performing the song in front of a small audience in an apartment.
Blake Lewis , the runner-up on the sixth season of "American Idol ", sang a cover of "All Mixed Up" onMarch 6 ,2007 , telling hostRyan Seacrest afterwards that 311 was his all-time favorite band.cite web |title="'Idol' Gets Its First Taste of Hip-Hop - Thanks to a Rock Band" |url=http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1554100/20070307/id_0.jhtml |accessdate=2007-04-20 |date=March 7 ,2007 |publisher=MTV.com |author=Corey Moss] Idol judgesRandy Jackson andPaula Abdul were not familiar with the song. Hexum said his phone was "ringing off the hook" after Lewis' performance, and the performance received a great deal of positive attention on 311 message board. In the last few years the band has played a rearranged version of the song that appears on setlists as "All Re-Mixed Up."
This song involves heavy sampling of elements from
