Kenneth Dunkin is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 5th District since 2002.

Early life

Dunkin was born May 2 1984 and raised in the Cabrini Green Housing Development of Chicago. He attended Lincoln Park High School and went on to earn his associate’s degree from Harold Washington College. Dunkin continued his education at Morehouse College where he earned his bachelor’s in Political Science and later his master’s in Social Service Administration from the University of Chicago.

As a youth, Dunkin was influenced by Jesse White, Illinois politician and founder of the Jesse White Tumbling Team. Dunkin currently serves the communities that his mentor, Jesse White, had once represented.

Public Service

Dunkin worked as social worker for many years. Most recently, he was the Director of the Robert Taylor Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, where he managed over $2.5 million in program services. He also worked as a consultant for the City of Chicago Department of Health and Department on Aging. He interned with U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Care Financing Administration, and United States Senator Paul Simon.

Dunkin is currently a member of the Associate Board of the Chicago International Film Festival, Lawson YMCA, Near North Health Services Corp, and the Governor’s Field Task Force.

State Representative

As a member of the Illinois House of Representatives, Dunkin serves on seven committees: Child Support Enforcement, Committee of the Whole, Financial Institutions, Insurance, Mass Transit, Telecommunications, and Tourism and Conventions. Dunkin is also a member of the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus.
