Emmanuel Baptist Church, a small country church founded and built in 1953, is located at 2511 S.C. 10 (McCormick Highway), west of Greenwood, South Carolina. Until 1962, it was under the jurisdiction of a board of trustees composed of three members of the church. Since then it has been under the full jurisdiction of its members.
Emmanuel Baptist Church is the oldest independent Baptist church in Greenwood County, and is still an fundamental independent Bbaptist church. Emmanuel Baptist is also the first independent Baptist church in Greenwood County, to install a baptismal pool. The pool, installed prior to 1957, was the place that many independent Baptists in Greenwood County symbolized their salvation. The pool was loaned to many churches, large and small, in the area for the purpose of baptismal services. The pool is unique in its location. It is located in the floor, under the stage.
The church was officially incorporated by the state of South Carolina in May 2008.
