Kroke (
Yiddish forKraków ) is a Polish trio formed in1992 inKraków by three lifelong friends and graduates of theAcademy of Music in Kraków , Tomasz Lato (double bass ), Tomasz Kukurba (violin ), and Jerzy Bawoł (accordion ). Though known primarily as aklezmer band, "Kroke" create and play original compositions that employ authentic ornamentation, with modes and scales from both Klezmer andSephardic music, resulting in a sound both contemporary and Jewish.The trio has collaborated with many artists, for instance violinist
Nigel Kennedy , with whom they made the album "East Meets East". In2003 , the band became a quartet when percussionist Tomasz Grochot joined, hence the album name "Quartet".One of their songs, "The Secret of The Life Tree", features on the soundtrack of
David Lynch 's2006 film "Inland Empire".Discography
