Ralphie O. May, (born February 1972 in Chattanooga, Tennessee) is a male American stand-up comedian who usually performs in Los Angeles, California.

Biography

Early life

Ralphie attended high school in Clarksville, Arkansas. He then moved to Houston, Texas to develop a career in comedy. There, he went to The Performing Arts Of Houston, where he graduated second in his class.Fact|date=July 2008 After his three years there, he moved to Los Angeles, where he has worked as an actor, writer, and producer.

Career

May entered the public eye when he appeared in the first season of the reality television series, "Last Comic Standing", in which stand-up comedians compete for a television contract. May finished as first runner-up. His career has taken off since then, and he performs at some of the most well-known comedy clubs across the country. May's first CD and DVD, titled "Just Correct", was released on February 10, 2004 and has since gone platinum.

May often speaks in African American Vernacular English (colloquially known as "Ebonics") and appears as a guest on the "Opie and Anthony" show on XM Satellite Radio. He has also been a part of "Opie and Anthony's Traveling Virus Comedy Tour" with other comedians in 2006 and 2007.

He also often appears as a guest host on Rover's Morning Glory, a syndicated morning show based out of Cleveland, Ohio.

May has done two specials on Comedy Central: "Ralphie May: Girth of a Nation" and "Ralphie May: Prime Cut".

May has appeared several times as a guest on "Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld", and Comics Unleashed.

Personal life

May, at one point, weighed over 800 pounds. He began gaining weight following a car accident at 16, in which he broke 42 bones. In recent years May has lost a great deal of weight, especially after he elected to undergo gastric bypass surgery. In 2005, he appeared on the television show "Celebrity Fit Club", where he lost 27 pounds. Even though May only lost 5.6% of his body weight (one of the lowest in the history of the show) he has managed to lose almost another 100 pounds since the show. May announced on the "Opie and Anthony" radio show on January 9, 2008 that he now weighs 394 pounds and continues to lose weight.
