- Internal goal stanchion
A goal net support stanchion"' is part of a football
goalpost . It is a support usually a tube or bar fixed to the crossbar to hold the net away at the top of the goal to allow a goal to be scored under the crossbar as required in law one of the game.Various types of stanchions are in use on goals but all should be attached outside the inner opening size of the goal.Freestanding Goals require net support stanchions to help stabalize such goals. Fully welded side frames are the best types as they do not expand apart in use.
Shapped nets can be fitted to goals with support stanchions either inside the frame and hung down or over the top. It is more often found that such nets are fitted over the top of these net support stanchion frames.
New stadiums use box shaped nets which are supported on net support poles to the rear of the goal and on these net support stanchions are rarely used as the net is tensioned to create the effect of the net being away from the crossbar as required in law one of the game.
During the world cup in the USA box nets with stanchions were used and the net stanchions broke during a live game which was embarrassing for the american manufacturer and since that day they have not been seen again in any stadium.
