Poonkunnam

Poonkunnam is a commercial and residential area in Thrissur, Kerala, India. It is 2 km away from the Swaraj Round. Poonkunnam is home to the renown "Poonkunnam Siva Temple".

The "Sitaram Textiles" were established in Poonkunnam by "Sri T.R. Ramachandra Iyer" in the early 1940s. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Rama, Poonkunnam Seetha Ramaswamy Temple in the Agraharam, called "Pushpagiri", and every year the "Ramanavami Festival" is celebrated here. The unique feature of this festival is the confluence of both TamilNadu culture (The Lord visiting the village. in chariot) and Kerala culture (the caparisoned elephants marching ahead).

Poonkunnam have some of the famous temples in the districts like Poonkunnam Siva Temple, Poonkunnam Seetha Ramaswamy Temple and Kuttankulangara Sri Krishna Temple.

Punkunnam Railway Station, the local railhead, is on the Thrissur-Wadakanchery railway line.

"Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School", an English medium higher secondary school affiliated with ICSE, is located in Poonkunnam, Thrissur.
