Antarctic island lying south ofBoffa Island in theWindmill Islands . It was first mapped from air photos taken by USNOperation Highjump andOperation Windmill in1947 and1948 . Named by theUS-ACAN for Reverend Henry F. Birkenhauer, S. J., seismologist and member of theWilkes Station party of1958 .See also
