Juan Lozano Bohórquez (born
August 30 ,1955 ) was a Spanish footballmidfielder . His former clubs include Beerschot, Anderlecht andReal Madrid . He was awarded the Footballer of the Year award for the Belgian league in 1987 and was capped once for the Spanish national team.Juan Lozano was born in 1954 in
Coria del Rio , in Spain. His parents migrated toBelgium when he was still very young. Juan lived near the football stadium of the local team Beerschot VAV, and decided to join the team at age 11. After 8 years in the youth teams, he made his debut in the A squad in 1974. Lozano soon became famous and loved by the supporters for his dribbling skills .He was a very technically gifted player, but at the same time he was known not to like training and elaborate tactical discussions.
In 1980, Lozano moved to the US to play for the
Washington Diplomats , but soon returned to Belgium. The attackingmidfielder was acquired by Anderlecht, where he quickly became a star player who was despised by defenders and admired by fans of the game. In 1983, after winning theUEFA cup with Anderlecht, Real Madrid noticed his qualities and brought Lozano to the Spanish competition.Lozano would win the UEFA cup once more, with Real Madrid, but did not get many opportunities to play. This prompted him to return to Anderlecht after just two years. He continued to be very successful in the Belgian competition, ending very close to winning the
Golden Shoe a couple of times. His career as a top player came to an end, when he was confronted with a broken leg after a tackle byKSV Waregem defenderIvan Desloover on April 11, 1987. He still won the award Profvoetballer van het Jaar for that year, but would never return to his previous form. Lozano ended his career withEendracht Aalst , playing 18 games for them in the 1989-1990 season.Lozano was nominated for the title
De Grootste Belg in 2005, where he ended up in place 426 after the preliminaries.
